The Clywedog Dam

72 metre high dam wall holding back over 9.5 km of water.

Constructed using 200,000 cubic metres of concrete.

It is the tallest mass concrete dam in Great Britain.

Water released from the dam can take up to four days to travel downstream to Bewdley in Worcestershire.

The top left photograph show the convex dam wall 72 metres high.

The top right image was taken showing the in summer. Located on a tributary of the River Severn building work started in 1964 and it was completed by 1967. It is used for recreation with sailing and canoeing centres.

Left - shows the dam wall and the Clywedog River.

The major function of the dam is to guarantee water supplies lower downstream in Worcester and beyond.

The dam also forms part of the flood defence network for major towns downstream such as Shrewsbury and Worcester.
